Research Interests

Mamoru leads the wheat and barley nitrogen use efficiency group at ACPFG. Nitrogen fertilisers are one of the highest cost inputs for farmers, and excess fertilisers run off and pollute waterways. Mamoru’s research investigates how plants can use nitrogen fertilisers more efficiently.


Mamoru obtained his Bachelors and Masters degrees at the Tokyo University, Agriculture and Technology. His PhD research was completed at the University of British Columbia, Canada. After his PhD he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, San Diego. Since 2008 he has been a research fellow at ACPFG.
